Dr. Ishtiaq Hossain: Providing Superior Medical Services from Queens to Long Island

👨‍⚕️ A Family Doctor Rooted in Community

Dr. Ishtiaq Hossain built his medical career with one singular, driving goal: to serve the very community that shaped his journey as an immigrant. Today, as a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician, he serves a diverse tapestry of patients across Queens and Long Island, New York.

For Dr. Hossain, healthcare is never transactional; it is deeply personal. He treats children, adults, and multi-generational families who rely on him not just for clinical prescriptions, but for the empathy and cultural understanding that only a community-rooted doctor can provide.

Having built his reputation in Jamaica, Queens, his recent expansion into New Hyde Park marks a new chapter in accessible healthcare for the region.

Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Dr. Hossain completed his early education there before immigrating to the United States in 2001. Like many first-generation success stories, his path was paved with resilience. While pursuing his undergraduate degree at Stony Brook University, he balanced rigorous academics with the reality of immigrant life—working at McDonald’s and taking on various odd jobs to make ends meet.

These early years of “working like a dog” instilled in him the discipline and patience that now define his clinical practice at Izna Medical.

🌍 Inspired by a Father’s Legacy

Medicine was never a random career choice for Dr. Hossain; it was a calling inherited from his father. A graduate of the prestigious Dhaka Medical College, his father practiced primary care for over 20 years. Watching his father navigate the complexities of patient care with grace left an indelible mark on him.

My father was my biggest inspiration,” Dr. Hossain reflects. “Experiencing firsthand the love and empathy he felt while serving the community influenced how I define success today.

After completing his residency at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton (2013–2016), Dr. Hossain remained there as an attending physician until 2022.

Despite his success upstate, the pull of New York City remained strong. He always envisioned returning to the neighborhoods that welcomed him as an immigrant.

In 2023, he transitioned back to the city, briefly joining Northwell Health before establishing his own practice under Izna Medical in Jamaica, Queens.

🩺 What Makes Dr. Ishtiaq Hossain Different?

In an era of “assembly-line” medicine, Dr. Hossain chooses to be a good listener. He believes that the most powerful diagnostic tool a physician possesses is the time spent with a patient.

He prioritizes understanding the full context of a patient’s life—their family dynamics, their stressors, and their personal goals—before recommending a treatment plan.

Furthermore, his ability to speak English, Bangla, Hindi, and Urdu removes the linguistic barriers that often prevent immigrant families from seeking care. This inclusivity ensures that whether a patient is from the local “Desi” community or elsewhere, they feel heard and respected.

📈 Impact Over Numbers

When asked how he measures the growth of Izna Medical, Dr. Hossain looks past revenue sheets. “Success is not about numbers,” he insists. “It is about the impact we bring to the lives of thousands of people in the community.

For him, success is found in the patient who finally feels understood or the family that finds a reliable medical home after years of searching.

His proudest milestone to date isn’t the opening of a building, but the overwhelming appreciation from the community in Jamaica. This trust has fueled his latest project: expanding into New Hyde Park. This new location is designed to bring that same level of attentive, precise care to a larger scale of families across Long Island.

🌟 Philosophy, Fun Facts, and Future Goals

Beyond the stethoscope, Dr. Hossain is a man of many roles—including a hands-on father who jokes that his “hidden talent” is changing diapers. Had he not pursued medicine, he envisions he would have entered the world of research, driven by a natural desire to solve complex problems through scientific inquiry.

His advice to the next generation of professionals is simple but firm: Never give up and keep working hard. It is a sentiment echoed in his life motto:

“Work like a dog, live like a king.”

Through his expansion to Long Island, Dr. Hossain continues to prove that with patience as a virtue, one can build a legacy of care that spans generations and bridges the gap between Queens and the rest of New York.
