Ikramul Hasan Shakil, a 31-year-old Bangladeshi mountaineer, has made history by completing a remarkable Sea to Summit expedition—trekking from the shores of Cox’s Bazar to the summit of Mount Everest in just 84 days. Covering approximately 1,400 kilometers, Shakil combined physical endurance with a passionate campaign to raise awareness about climate change and plastic pollution throughout his journey.
Starting from Inani Beach on February 25, Shakil embarked on a challenging trek that spanned cities, mountains, and rivers, ultimately reaching the 8,848-meter summit of Everest on May 19. After covering 1,374 kilometers over 64 days—including a 3-kilometer swim across the Jamuna River—he arrived at Everest Base Camp on April 29. Along the way, he actively engaged local communities and followers through social media, promoting environmental protection and sustainability. Read the full report on The Daily Star.
Shakil’s route took him from Cox’s Bazar through Dhaka, Chattogram, Feni, Cumilla, and Munshiganj, before reaching the Banglabandha Land Port on March 28. Crossing into India, he trekked through Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling, entering Nepal on March 31. After acclimatizing at Kanchenjunga Base Camp, he completed essential high-altitude climbs to Camps 3 and 4, preparing for his final ascent.

Backed by sponsors such as PRAN Group, UNDP, Mr Noodles, Makalu-E-Traders Nepal, and Systema Bangladesh, Shakil’s expedition was not only a personal achievement but also a platform for environmental activism. He frequently shared updates about plastic cleanup drives and climate discussions, using his adventure to inspire awareness and action against pressing ecological issues.

On May 19 at 6:30 a.m., guided by Sherpa Tashi Galjen, Shakil proudly raised the Bangladeshi flag atop Everest. If confirmed by Guinness World Records, he will be recognized as the fastest and youngest person to complete a Sea to Summit trek. His accomplishment places him among Bangladesh’s elite Everest summiteers, joining the ranks of Musa Ibrahim, MA Muhit, Nishat Majumder, Wasfia Nazreen, Mohammad Khaled Hossain, and Babar Ali.
