Bungalow NYC‘s marigold-draped entrance provides an instant sanctuary from the surrounding bustle of Manhattan.
What replaces it is something rare: a curated world of colonial-era nostalgia, elevated Indian cuisine, and refined hospitality. Located in the East Village, Bungalow is the latest venture by Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna, alongside restaurateur Jimmy Rizvi and designer Shaila Rizvi.
This is not casual Indian dining. This is a luxury with memory.

Inspired by the word bangla, Bungalow evokes the memory of colonial-era Indian clubhouses and expansive verandahs. Designer Shaila Rizvi constructed the space as a journey through six distinctive areas.
Guests descend wooden stairs lined with custom wallpaper by artist Varunika Gupta. A red almirah filled with cookbooks, brass chandeliers, copper vessels, and vintage telephones recreate a library-club aesthetic. The semi-open kitchen, framed by stacked copperware, becomes both spectacle and stage.
The ambience feels intentional, cinematic, and immersive.

Chef Vikas Khanna, formerly of Michelin-starred Junoon, presents a menu that spans India’s geography, from Kashmir to Kerala.
Small plates and large plates showcase technical precision and emotional memory.
Standout dishes from the menu include:
• Shrimp Balchao Cones – A Goan-inspired dish reimagined with refined presentation.
• Paneer Chandni – Delicate and luxurious, rooted in North Indian tradition.
• Chicken Chitranee – A Jewish-Indian curry layered with tamarind and shishito.
• Mango Three Ways – Rasmalai, mousse, and coulis — a dessert inspired by childhood nostalgia.
The cocktail program includes drinks like Chai Pani and Kaali Peeli Taxi, adding theatrical personality to the experience.
Luxury does not go unnoticed.
“The warm, cozy interior, beautifully adorned with floral decor and vintage Indian architecture, made us feel instantly at home… The food was truly soul-nourishing.”
–Prosenjit Nandi, Google Review
At the same time, critical voices provide balance.
“Good, but there are better options for high end Indian… The puri and the guguni were both really good.”
This range of feedback reflects what luxury dining often invites: high expectations, strong opinions, and thoughtful evaluation.

Light filters through a glass-pane roof. Climbing plants soften arches painted by Alexander Gorlizki. Candlelight glows against brass tables.
The space does not whisper nostalgia. It stages it.
Every element, from wicker seating to symmetrical rugs reinforces the idea of a refined Indian clubhouse transported into downtown Manhattan.

Bungalow is listed in the Michelin Guide for New York State, a recognition that signals culinary seriousness and craftsmanship.
While Chef Vikas Khanna previously earned Michelin recognition at Junoon, Bungalow stands on its own as a thoughtfully executed fine dining experience.
Reservations are competitive. The dining room fills quickly. The diaspora shows up.
Bungalow NYC is not simply serving Indian food. It is presenting a curated, luxury interpretation of Indian heritage within one of the world’s most competitive restaurant cities.
For those seeking refined Indian cuisine in New York, Bungalow offers theatre, technique, and memory in equal measure.
