Darsheel Safary won hearts as Ishaan Awasthi in Taare Zameen Par (2007), delivering a performance that stayed with audiences for years. Darsheel: I was born and raised in Mumbai. From a young age, I loved performing, joining school events and dance classes, which eventually led me into acting.
Darsheel: While attending Shiamak Davar’s Dance Academy, I saw a hand-drawn poster for an audition with Aamir Khan. After three rounds, I was selected.

Darsheel: At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the impact. I was surrounded by positivity and slowly understood the connection the audience had with my character.
Darsheel: I felt a disconnect between my public persona and my true self. I wanted a normal college experience and to explore theater, which offered a new perspective on performance.
Darsheel: Yes, in 2017 I wrote and directed a short film funded by my theater savings. It was an enlightening experience and sparked my interest in filmmaking.
Darsheel: I’ve recently completed two films, including a murder mystery. Theater continues to be central to my growth, performing in locations like Orissa.

Darsheel: Stay observant and value experiences around you. Even small moments can shape your perspective later.
Darsheel didn’t stop at childhood fame. He explored theater, directing, and diverse film roles, continuously reshaping his craft. Breaking the child actor image was challenging, but it allowed him to return with depth, range, and intention.
He isn’t just remembered for Ishaan Awasthi—he’s a multifaceted artist still evolving, a testament to resilience, creativity, and passion.
