From Sreemangal to Paris: The Story of One Thousand Poets

Sreemangal to Paris: The Genesis of a Dream

Born in the quaint confines of a modest room in Sreemangal, Bangladesh, One Thousand Poets is more than just a fashion brand—it’s a deeply personal narrative woven into every thread. Founded by Iftekhar Noor, this avant-garde label finds its roots in memories and artistic experimentation. The brand’s identity draws not only from Noor’s personal experiences and cultural heritage but also from a thoughtful exploration of social themes. His first collection is based on bangles, a material tied to memory and meaning shared with his mother.

The Philosophy Behind the Name

The brand’s name, One Thousand Poets, encapsulates the profound belief that creativity flows like poetry through every aspect of life. Whether in nature, a grain of rice, or the drape of a saree, the artistry of existence is omnipresent. For Noor, creativity isn’t confined to words; it extends into fashion. His garments, conceptual and artistic, are designed to evoke emotions and tell stories, much like a verse that resonates differently with each reader.

A Collection That Speaks Volumes

The debut collection, Bezni, is rooted in personal memory and cultural exploration rather than purely poetic musings. Inspired by childhood moments of resting on his mother’s arm, adorned with bangles that left imprints on his cheek, Noor’s collection delves into the deeper significance of this ornament. The Golden Bangle Dress, adorned with 13,000 meticulously hand-stitched beads and crafted from 450 steel bangles, took 400 hours to create and is priced at 4,000 euros, symbolizing the brand’s intricate craftsmanship. The Bangle Imprint Dress, inspired by childhood memories of the impressions left by his mother’s bangles, recreates those patterns on fabric and is priced at 600 euros.

The Glass Bangle Embellished Dress features broken glass, silver, brass, and steel bangles, each piece polished and stitched to form intricate motifs, available for 900 euros. The Red Two-Piece Ensemble is a vibrant creation with 800 steel bangles wrapped in red tulle, an ode to meticulous artistry, priced at 1,500 euros. The Green Embrace Dress, symbolizing the bond between bangles and the wrist, weighs 9 kilograms and features 1,000 glass bangles, wrapping around the body like poetry in motion. It is priced at 1,200 euros.

The Core Memory Behind Bezni

The collection title, Bezni, is inspired by a heartfelt conversation with Noor’s mother about her teenage memories of reshmi churi—delicate glass bangles—and traditional Bezni Beti, women who sold bangles door-to-door. These adornments, once considered simple accessories, were reimagined in Noor’s work to become sculptural elements with both sentimental and structural significance.

A Global Vision

Although the brand began in Bangladesh, its ambitions are global. Noor’s current base in Paris serves as a launchpad for future collections that will blend his cultural heritage with global artistry. A ready-to-wear line will soon be introduced, starting at 50 euros, alongside high-end pieces reaching up to 5,000 euros. One Thousand Poets is poised to redefine wearable art on an international stage.
