New York Voted the Worst City in the U.S. for Dating

Although we definitely didn’t need a survey to confirm what most of us in the Big Apple already knew, New York has just been ranked the worst city for dating in the entire U.S. Shocking? Not really.

The survey, conducted by American researchers, analyzed the dating scenes in 20 of the largest cities in America using six key metrics: population of singles, likelihood of marriage, divorce rates, individuals actively searching for relationships, quality of life, and cost of living. The verdict? New York may boast the highest number of single people, but it’s also the most difficult place to spark a romance.

According to the report, “By all metrics except for the population of singles, New York lags behind other cities. This ranking is due to New York’s high cost of living, low quality of life, high divorce rates, and, despite its large single population, the lowest number of people actively searching for a relationship.” So, while New Yorkers might be surrounded by plenty of potential love interests, it seems that few are genuinely on the hunt for romance.

This isn’t exactly breaking news for local singles. The challenges of dating in the city have long been a source of inspiration for countless TV shows and movies. From Sex and the City to When Harry Met Sally and Girls, the city’s romantic struggles have been a recurring theme in pop culture. It’s both a point of frustration and fascination: why should dating be so hard in one of the greatest cities in the world?

Still, it’s a little disheartening to see New York top the list of the 10 worst cities for dating. Even in a city known for its unmatched energy and opportunities, finding love seems to remain elusive for many. Here’s the complete ranking:

  1. New York
  2. Los Angeles
  3. Philadelphia
  4. Chicago
  5. San Antonio
  6. Fort Worth
  7. San Diego
  8. Houston
  9. Phoenix
  10. San Jose

So, while you may be surrounded by endless date-night options and eligible singles, it appears New York’s dating scene remains a tough nut to crack.
