If you are looking for some authentic Chinese with a Western twist into it, then Xi’an Famous Foods is the place for you. Founded in 2005, it is a casual-fast restaurant chain, based in the Big Apple.
Xi’an Famous Foods has a very colorful and rich operational history. Named after the 3,100 year-old city of Xi’an in China, from where the owner and CEO Jason Wang and his family hail, the restaurant is a manifestation of authentic family recipes and Chinese cuisine, whose perfect tastes, texture, and presentation will make your mouth-water.
Wang’s move to the U.S. made him reminisce of his grandfather’s recipes from when he was young, and he figured that there would be more people who felt the same about their homely food. This revelation and yearning led him to open a store that delivered to the Chinese diaspora a taste of home, dipped in his grandfather’s secret sauce recipes.
In fact, before XFF came into business, Wang’s father started a bubble tea shop, which he joined post his graduation. But when their food started getting into the limelight, they moved their store to the basement of the Golden Mall, Flushings, Queens, renaming it to the present title.
After his short corporate stint, Wang joined the family business and co-founded it to its present splendor. They expanded their shop from the mall basement to all over Brooklyn and Manhattan, currently owning about 11 stores across different locations.
Here’s what their literal fan base numbers look like:
With a 4.9 star rating, more than 500 likes, 1000+ visitors, and over 700 reviews, Xi’an Famous Food’s popularity is no joke.

“We’re going to keep it pure, because that’s what people are coming to us for,” Wang told the New York Times.
