Women’s health is often overlooked. Kanwal Haq, the founder of TCY Women, and her team are planting seeds for change. TCY’s mission, to help women navigate health and care at every age and every stage, will come to life with their first major event, Roots of Care. On May 28, 2025, the nonprofit is bringing together advocates, healthcare professionals, and local neighbors to champion women’s health and care. Through education, research, and community building, they’re working to close systemic gaps in access and equity. The Roots of Care launch event invites all who care about women’s wellbeing to join together, and help plant the seeds for a healthier, more caring future.
TCY Women was born from lived experience. Its mission is simple: Every woman deserves the right care at the right time.
With the publication of Taking Care of You:The Empowered Woman’s Guide to Better Health with Mayo Clinic Press, TCY has worked to shift power back into the hands of women. The book features insights from 111 diverse health professionals and covers everything, from mental health and reproductive care to aging and chronic illness.
Roots of Care will bring TCY’s vision to life.
Held in New York City, Roots of Care unfolds through a powerful storytelling journey– “Three Chapters of Womanhood”. This interactive experience is shaped by age and life stage, with each chapter offering a different format, voice, and style of conversation.
At the heart of every session is one essential question: What does taking care of you mean right now—in this season of life?
The goal is to hold space for experiences that are real – but too often overlooked. These conversations aren’t just about listening—they’re about sparking new connections, building collective wisdom, and inspiring action toward a future where every woman gets the care she needs—and deserves.

Roots of Care also marks the launch of two major TCY Women’s grassroots research campaigns– designed to move from conversation to long-term change:
Women’s voices have the power to shape the future. Just like voting makes your voice heard in elections, sharing your health story helps guide research, inform policy, and drive the changes women need. Every story matters. Every voice holds power.
TCY Women was created to help women navigate health and care—at every age, and every stage—guiding them to the right care, at the right time. By centering lived experiences and uplifting diverse voices, TCY Women is creating space for women to feel seen, heard, and supported.
TCY wants every guest to feel at home– not just informed. The evening will begin with food, tea, and moments for reflection. It will close with a heartfelt conversation between two-time cancer survivor Tehmina Khan and her son, actor Shahjehan Khan. Together, they’ll share their story of resilience, intergenerational healing, and the many layers of care. Their journey shows that care goes beyond treatment—it’s about emotional support, family connection, and the stories we carry. Together, they remind us that healing happens in many ways.
TCY Women centers lived experiences and unites diverse voices. Their goal: inspire action to advance health equity for women worldwide.
Roots of Care is for everyone who believes women deserve better care. TCY welcomes healthcare workers, caregivers, artists, mothers, organizers, students, advocates —and everyone who has experienced the gaps in our health and care systems.
Attendees can share their stories, join future sessions, or simply listen. Every voice, every presence, every action plants a seed.

Attendees will be among the first to take part in 1 Million More Women, helping to plant the seeds for change.
After the event, TCY Women will expand its research by launching 1 Million More Women—a national campaign to gather women’s stories and lived experiences. This collective storytelling will guide how care systems are shaped, from research and policy to future programs and resources.
The goal is to build new models of care—models that center women’s voices and bridge the gaps in health and care across every stage of life. From first periods to mental health, chronic conditions to mobility, and recovery to prevention,TCY Women is working toward a future where every woman, no matter her background, income, or insurance status, gets the care she needs, when she needs it.
At the heart of this work is a simple truth: When women share their stories—they’re lighting the way forward.
