While best known for his music, Stormzy has long used his platform for impact. In 2018, he launched the Stormzy Scholarship, funding Black British students at Cambridge. More than 30 students have benefited, helping address barriers in elite education.
The university commended his “extraordinary contribution to society,” praising his efforts to open doors for underrepresented communities in education and the arts. In his speech, Stormzy called the experience “surreal,” adding, “Look mum, I made it.”

In 2020, Stormzy committed £10 million over 10 years to fight racial inequality through his #Merky Foundation. The initiative supports grassroots organizations, educational access, and creative careers for marginalized groups.
Cambridge highlighted how his work blends creativity with purpose. “Stormzy’s voice goes beyond music. It pushes for lasting change,” said one official.
With this latest recognition, Stormzy joins a small group of cultural figures whose activism has been honored at one of the world’s leading universities.
