TINDS: Can you tell us about your background and what you did before starting Mehar’s?
Mehar: I began as a freelance writer and proofreader around 2013. Then I worked in a multinational company for three years. While it paid the bills, it never fulfilled my desire to build something of my own. That desire kept growing stronger until I finally took the leap.
TINDS: What sparked the idea for Mehar’s?
Mehar: Business is in my blood. I grew up in a family with a strong entrepreneurial mindset, so it always intrigued me. One day, I decided to start a side hustle. I invested just 4,000 taka in four MAC lipsticks. That was my humble beginning. I created a Facebook group and started from there.
TINDS: Why do you think your products caught on so quickly?
Mehar: At that time, it was really hard to find authentic branded cosmetics in Bangladesh. I never compromised on quality, and people appreciated that. Authenticity became the foundation of Mehar’s. That trust is what helped the business grow.
TINDS: How did your business evolve from an online store to a physical showroom?
Mehar: As orders increased and customer demand grew, I felt it was time to take the next step. In 2019, I left my corporate job and opened our first showroom in Banani. That’s when things got real. It was both exciting and nerve-wracking.
TINDS: TINDS: What was the most difficult challenge you faced along the way?
Mehar: The pandemic, without a doubt. Luxury items were no longer a priority for most people. I had to think fast. I introduced products like hand sanitizers, snacks, chocolates—basic necessities that people needed. That pivot saved us.
TINDS: Despite the pandemic, you made remarkable profits. How did that happen?
Mehar: Honestly, it was all about adapting. Even during lockdowns, we managed to earn over 2 million taka per month. We listened to what people needed and responded quickly. That flexibility was crucial.
TINDS: How did your team support you during this period?
Mehar: I had eight amazing employees and didn’t let go of a single one during COVID. We worked together to find new ways to serve our customers. Their loyalty and commitment helped keep the brand strong.
TINDS: TINDS: Has anyone been a key support system in your journey?
Mehar: My husband has been my biggest supporter. From sourcing ingredients to handling logistics, he’s always been there. He’s as much a part of Mehar’s success as I am.
TINDS: What keeps you motivated to keep building Mehar’s?
Mehar: For me, business is like an addiction—in a good way! I love the adrenaline, the problem-solving, the creativity. Every day brings something new, and that keeps me going.

TINDS: What are your plans for expanding Mehar’s in the near future?
Mehar: We’re planning to open a new outlet in Dhanmondi. I’m also launching Mehar’s Kids, which will focus on children’s products. And we’ve listed on Foodpanda too, so people can access our essentials easily.
TINDS: What does Mehar’s Kids aim to offer?
Mehar: I’ve always wanted to explore new markets, and children’s products felt like a natural extension. With Mehnur Baby Shop, we aim to provide trustworthy, high-quality items for parents who value safety and authenticity.
TINDS: How do you stay ahead in such a competitive market?
Mehar: I focus on three things: authenticity, quality, and customer service. When your customers know they can trust you, they’ll come back no matter what others are offering.
TINDS: What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a business?
Mehar: Just start! Even if you have a small amount to invest, believe in your idea. Consistency, not capital, is what makes a business successful.
TINDS: If you could give one message to your younger self, what would it be?
Mehar: Take more risks earlier. Fear holds us back, but once you step out, you realize how much you’re capable of.
